The first mass produced basketball sneaker in North America, the Converse All Star debuted in 1917 in natural brown colors with black trim. In 1922, Converse hired Charles “Chuck” Taylor as a salesperson and player-coach for its club team, the Converse All Stars. In 1933, Taylor signed a contract to add his name and signature to the shoe; a year later, Converse officially changed the sneaker’s name to the Chuck Taylor All Star.
